Mario Mikulić
(Korčula, Croatia, 1924 – Sarajevo, BiH, 1991)
He was born in 1924 on the island Korčula (Croatia), but the very next year, as a child, he moved with his familly to Omiš, then to Split in 1931 where he finished Primary school. He attended Grammary school in Split but never finished it. In 1940, when he was 16, he moved to Sarajevo to escape arresting as a suspect of illegal activities as he was member of Youth Section of Comunist Party of Yugoslavia. In 1944, he joined the National Liberation Struggle as an illustrator for war newspapers and prints. In 1945, in Sarajevo, after the Liberation, he finished and graduated from Grammary school and enroled in State School for Fine Arts and Crafts as soon as it was founded. Since 1955 he worked in magazine Zadrugar. He recived the most prestigious town award (1966) and B&H recognition for his art (1970). He became president of the Association of Fine Arts (ULUBIH) in 1970. In 1972 because of illness, he was retired and the he dedicate himself to painting a portraits. The retrospective exhibition of his portraits was held in the Gallery of Yugoslav portraits in Tuzla in 1984, in the honour of 35 years of his work and creativity. He died in Sarajevo in 1991.
He used atelier in Street Ferhadija no. 19 from 1949 to 1991.
