Babić Ljubo
(Jastrebarsko, Croatia, 1890 – Zagreb, Croatia, 1974)
From 1910 to 1914, he studied in Munich and Paris. In 1916, he started teaching at the School of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He participated in the establishment of the Croatian Spring Salon and became the curator of the Modern Gallery of the Croatian Society of Arts in Zagreb. In 1923, he participated in the organisation of an independent group of Croatian artists and, in 1929, in the establishment of the group (“Trojica”) “Three Artists”. He graduated the Art History in 1932 from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. From 1947 to 1965, he was the director of the Strossmayer Gallery. In 1950, he was elected for the full member of the Zagreb-based Yugoslav Academy of Arts and Sciences and, in 1956, for the dean of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His retrospective exhibition was held in 1975 in the Modern Gallery in Zagreb.
