Aralica Stojan
(Škare kod Otočca, 1883 – Beograd, 1980)
He graduated from the Teachers’ School in Osijek and studied painting in Munich under Heinrich Knirr (1909) and at the Akademie der bildenden Kunste (1910 – 14). He studied graphic arts in Prague (1916-17). Upon his return to Zagreb, he opened a first private painting school. During his stay in Paris (1925 – 33), he worked in the studio of André Lhote (1926-27). His work was influenced by his stay in various cultural centers (Germany, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Yugoslavia). He has received many prizes and awards. Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) and associate member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (JAZU). The memorial collection “Stojan Aralica” in Otočac was opened in 1980.
