Jovanović Paja
(Serbia, 1859 – Austria, 1957)
Graduated in 1880 from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. That same year, he enrolled with the Master’s School for Historical Composition run by Prof. L.K. Müller. In 1884, he moved to Munich, where he stayed for five years and then moved to Paris. In 1888, he was elected for the full member of the Serbian Royal Academy. In 1911, he lived briefly in Belgrade and then left for Vienna and later to Geneva, where he lived until 1918. After the World War I, he moved to Belgrade and stayed there until 1950, when he returned to Vienna once again. He is renowned as one of the best Serbian painters of historical compositions and genre scenes. He received significant awards both in the country and abroad.
