Creative philosophy of Čedomir Kostović
“My research relates to my personal interest as a pedagogue and creative – the design of visual assets in a social and cultural context. In contemporary societies, the non-commercial social poster represents one of the most successful visual methods of raising people’s awareness of important social topics: the protection of human rights; providing assistance; environment protection; and many other issues of regional, national and international importance.
Unlike commercial posters, social posters have a much more important role; they are designed to draw viewers’ attention to important problems that exist in society and make them think about solving such problems.
My social responsibility as a graphic designer is to create visual means to solve these problems; encourage society to solve them and suggest ways to do so.
The designer’s consciousness becomes the society’s consciousness when it takes a physical form that conveys a message to the viewer.
I expanded the scope of my interests by conducting theoretical research in the field of contemporary graphic design with an emphasis on social and political posters, as well as the design of posters for cultural events. All these researches were fruitful in many aspects and brought results that became visible.”
