ENCOUNTER OF IDEA AND FORM
From the Collection of the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina
July 16 – August 23, 2025
The exhibition Encounter of Idea and Form presents a part of the rich collection of the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This time, we have chosen to dedicate the exhibition to sculpture as an important segment of our artistic heritage. The shaping of materials, commitment to object-based art, the abandonment of tradition, and the exploration of form are just some of the aspects considered in this exhibition.
Although the focus is placed on sculpture, objects, and installations, the exhibition does not exclusively encompass art that deals with shaping volume in space. It also includes paintings and prints whose authors place the object, form, volume, or structure at the centre of their artistic interest.
In this way, we have sought to offer a different perspective on just one segment of what we have – and who we are. In this unrestrained playfulness, we present a fragment of contemporary sculptural production, into which some old masters have also found their way: Bosnian and Herzegovinian art alongside several regional and international names, paintings inspired by sculpture, and sculptures in which painting prevails.
