Bojan Stojčić – Viva la Transicion
We cordially invite you to the solo exhibition Viva la Transicion by the Bosnian artist Bojan Stojčić, which opens on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. First part of Stojčić’s work “Seeking for a person”, displayed on the Gallery building last week, aroused great public interest. The exhibition is realized with the support of the Joint Regional Program of the United Nations “Dialogue for the Future”. The exhibition curator is dr. Amila Ramović.
Bojan Stojčić (b.1988) is one of the clearest voices of the recent Bosnian and Herzegovinian contemporary art. He received his Master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo and began his artistic practice in the Ideologija creative team closely collaborating with Anur Hadžiomerspahić. Central to his expression are simple interventions in everyday life, through which the instantaneity, poetics, traces and politics of his subjects is emphasized. His work is recognized and represented in renowned art institutions as well as private collections in the US and Europe. Solo exhibitions (selection): Gallery Showcase / Grenoble (2019), Brodac / Sarajevo (2018), Collegium Artisticum / Sarajevo (2014) Group exhibitions (selection): Museum of Now / Berlin (2020), Danube Dialogues / Novi Sad, Serbia (2019), MMSU / Rijeka (2019), Good Children Gallery / New Orleans (2016), ZVONO / Sarajevo (2014).
Solo exhibition Viva la Transicion includes Stojčić’s works from various cycles created in Berlin and Sarajevo. The topics of transition, poetics of geopolitics, as well as manifestations of crisis through the collective and individual body dominate this opus. Since 2020 is the year of the crisis, but also the year which marks 25 years since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the exhibition addresses the intimacy of transition. Special focus is given to the transition from the central geopolitical position of Yugoslavia to a geopolitical reality of European periphery. The title Viva la Transicion which encompasses Stojčić’s message is also the artist’s signature statement which granted him international popularity in 2015, when it was painted on one of Sarajevo’s operational trams.
