Dobrović Petar
(Pécs, Hungary, 1890 – Belgrade, 1942)
He studied painting at the Academy in Budapest (1909 – 11) and spent two years in Paris (1912 – 14) during his study visit. After returning he lived and worked in Pécs and Budapest, where he painted Cézannesque still lifes. In 1914 he wrote for the Alföld magazine about the connection of Cézanneism to the Renaissance tradition, and in 1915 he made compositions of larger format treating mythological and other motifs. He worked at the free art school in Budapest (1917/18). He was also the head of the Pécs Arts Society. He was elected President of the Baranya Republic in 1921, and after its fall he left for Belgrade, where he taught at the School of Fine Arts (1923-25), the Kolarac People’s University (from 1934) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade (from 1937).
