Jordan Vasilije
(Zagreb, Hrvatska, 1934 – Zagreb, Hrvatska, 2019)
Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1958 under Ljubo Babić. From 1978 to 1999 he taught painting at the same institution, from 1996 he taught at the Academy in Široki Brijeg. His opus developed in thematic cycles: Ruševine / Ruins (1962, 1966, 1971), Materinstvo / Motherhood (1963), Samotar / Loner (1964-65, 1969, 1976, 1980, 1986, 1996), Vremenski zid / Time Wall (1964, 1971, 1973, 77, 1981, 1987), Familija / Family (1967, 1969, 1972, 1974, 1986). For his cycle Genealogija / Genealogy (1967-68) he received the Zagreb City Award (1969). His work used to be classified as magical realism, metaphysical stream of modern painting, Post-Surrealism, fantastic, and oniric painting. Since the mid-1980s, he has begun creating sacral paintings.
