Isidor Kršnjavi (1845-1927)
He received first painting lessons from H. Conrad von Hötzendorf in Osijek. In Vienna he studied history, art history and philosophy from 1866 to 1869, and he also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts as a Croatian government scholarship recipient. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1870 and earned his doctorate in law in 1891 at the University of Graz. He furthered his knowledge in Venice, Rome, Naples, Siena, Vienna and Munich. In Italy he met Josip Juraj Strossmayer, which influenced his future cultural work, especially the founding of the Department of Art History at the University of Zagreb. He painted actively in the periods 1865-77 and 1918-26.
