Baumgartl Baltazar

Baltazar Baumgartl (Fekete-Lehota, Rožňava District, Slovakia, 1867 – Sarajevo, BiH, 1922) studied painting at the Art Teachers’ College in Budapest (1888 – 1891) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1891 – 1892). He worked as a drawing professor in Sarajevo since 1899.⁣
He was close to the members of Sarajevo Painters Club (Sarajevoer Maler Club) and enjoyed the great respect of the young generation of Sarajevo painters. And yet for a long time he remained unknown to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian audience – Baumgartl’s works were first introduced at the exhibition “Acquisition from 1973” in the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1974.⁣
