Mirsad Konstantinović

Moving in place

March 28 – June 3, 2023 (extended until June 17, 2023)

National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Opening: March 28 at 8 p.m.

“If someone’s work is entirely a self-portrait, then it is undoubtedly the work of Mirsad Kostantinović.

His dedication to art was total, all his life and work was a work of art. There was hardly anything related to him besides art. From his way of life to what he left behind in his unfortunately short life, everything is one self-portrait.

He worked as an assistant and associate at the Department of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. When he left this world, nothing was left behind but his art. Experienced, thoughtful, strong and subtle at the same time.

His artistic heritage has now been inherited by the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation and with the support of the Academy of Fine Arts, to preserve it for future generations. (…)” Strajo Krsmanović, director of the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina

In October 2021, at the proposal of the dean of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Dubravka Lejlić–Pozderac, and the Head of the Printmaking Department, Assoc. M.Sc. Admir Mujkić, the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina took over the complete legacy of Mirsad Konstantinović, previously stored at the Academy.

The donation of these works not only increased the number of significant works of Bosnian-Herzegovinian art that we preserve, but saved the work of one of the most important graphic artists in Bosnia and Herzegovina from decay and disappearance. The exhibition “Moving in Place” presents these works, including prints, drawings, installations, sketches and caricatures.
