Sometimes one painting, bought or received as a gift, is enough to create the passion and desire to acquire one more, and another one and another one… until the physical capacities of the space are exceeded and a man can proudly call himself a collector. With the acquisition of one painting started the collecting journey of Mirko Komosar, a man who, until the middle of the 20th century, built one of the most impressive private collections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with love and wish to make it accessible to everyone.<\/p>\n
In 1971, before the end of Komosar’s life, the collection was bought for the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The collection consisting of 250 works of art, paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints, by mostly Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Yugoslav artist, and few foreign and unknown artists, was transferred to the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1983. The collection was documented, and since then the works from the Mirko Komosar Collection were presented at numerous exhibitions and publications of the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other institutions from the neighboring countries. This is the first time that the Mirko Komosar Collection is presented to the public.<\/p>\n
Mirko Komosar<\/p>\n
Mirko Komosar (Prijedor, BiH, 1894 \u2013 Sarajevo, BiH, 1973) gained his education in Jasenovac, Zagreb and Graz, where he graduated dental school. After he finished his studies, he moved to Sarajevo and opened a private dental practice. He soon began collecting works of art for his private collection, exhibiting them in the space of the practice. Although his patients could enjoy this treasure, Komosar wanted to share it with all art lovers. That is why, in Marshal Tito Street 34, on July 16, 1950 he opened the first private art gallery in Sarajevo.<\/p>\n
