BAJEVIĆ Maja

(Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1967)

 

She began her artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, where she got her master’s degree in 1991. She continued her education in Paris, where she graduated at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1996, and completed postgraduate studies in 2003.

Her works, performative in many ways, range from videos, installations, performances and sound to text, manual labor, drawings, prints, photographs and mechanics.

She has participated in some of the most important exhibitions in recent decades, such as the Manifesto (2000), Documenta (2007) and the Biennale in Istanbul (2001) and the Venice Biennale (2003). She has had solo exhibitions at PS1, MoMA, New York (2004); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2005); Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice (2008); Reina Sofia, Madrid (2011); DAAD Gallery, Berlin (2012), The James Gallery, CUNY, New York, (2012/2013)

 

She has taught postgraduate students at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon (2001); the Università luav di Venezia, Venice (2004 – 2008); the master studies at the Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany (2010).
