Dervišević Mensur

DERVIŠEVIĆ Mensur

(Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1928 – Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1982)

He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1954. After moving to Sarajevo in 1955, he was admitted to the Association of Visual Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ULUBiH), and already stood out as a fresh phenomenon on the Sarajevo art scene at ULUBiH’s exhibition in 1956.

The first phase of Dervišević’s painting is characterized by a dark palette of colors thickly applied with broad brush strokes. Sometimes the paintings are refreshed with accents of lighter colors (white, yellow or red). The artist expanded his palette in the mid-1960s, and the prevailing motive was still life.

For a short period of time, he worked at a high school in Tuzla as a professor of art education.
