This collection was formed after the 1992-1995 war, thanks to the artists and organisations from all over the world who donated their works as an expression of sympathy towards the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The collection contains solely the contemporary art pieces and it’s most important donors are: the humanitarian organisation “Doctors of the World”, UNESCO, the Czech organisation “Man in Distress”, the Moderna Museet, etc.  So, unexpectedly, after the war has ended and with all the efforts the Gallery’s staff has invested to preserve the existing holdings, the collection has not only survived but it also became enriched with the works of the renowned artists such as Wolf Vostell, Claude Viallat, Mimmo Rotella, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Edvard Chillida, etc
